I tore up the carpet and the pad, down to the original concrete floor. I stripped all the gunk off that, then stained it with semi transparent concrete stain, then a couple coats of sealer to make it shiny and protect it.

thanks man.

I wanted to make it darker...its so damn hot and bright outside I was sick of all the glossy white paint in my house. I got a bunch of blackout curtains and blackout fabric today too, I'm working on getting those up on every window in this section.

The hours approaching, just give it your best
You got to reach your prime.
That’s when you need to put yourself to the test,
And show us a passage of time,
Were going to need a montage (montage)
Oh it takes a montage (montage)

Sure a lot of things happing at once,
With mind, everyone what’s going on (what’s going on?)
And when every shot you show a little improvement
Just Show it or it will take to long
that’s called a montage (montage)
Oh we want montage (montage)

When I first started scrolling through, I thought the sword in the wall was just a nice decorating touch.......

Nice work. Polished concrete is a great flooring material. Wish it were more common. Cool under foot, clean, simple, slight variation in color and texture, takes any kind of rug on top.

And pure white is terrible for the eyes......

For some reason I thought you lived in an apartment, which would make no sense considering the changes you made...

Anyway... Congrats. It takes a lot of balls to rip out walls, etc. like that.

ric, I love the concrete. another HUGE benefit is the fact that I can mop it, instead of the carpets which I had to steam clean.... with two dogs (and me) running around it gets pretty messy. and yeah, the sterile white was awful.

my plan is to tear down that entire wall at some point, and extend the concrete floor into the adjoining room, making one master suite. I just need to figure out if it is a load bearing wall (which I'd imagine it is). I guess I'd have to put a couple pillars in there instead.

Even if it is load bearing you can pull the wall out. You could put in a couple of interstitial columns, as you note - probably relatively small pipe columns - or you could run a new beam across to two new columns that are flush with the two opposing walls, so that the space is more open. In any case, the distance you're spanning is not great..... nothing more fun than using your house as a laboratory

The floor took a month. Mostly because I could only work on weekends really, and I had to make a ton of trips to Home Depot, had to rent equipment, etc. It was basically 3 solid weekends of 2 10 hour days.

and most of that was scrubbing the floor. For some reason it was painted orange under the carpet, so I had to get that up. It took 4 gallons of industrial strength stripper, a huge floor scrubber machine, and about 20 hours on my hands and knees with steel wool

You do realize you didn't need to remove all drywall to make that hole... but I guess for the sake of using 1 full piece of drywall you had to. I would have done it differently.

When I saw the thread title, I was hoping to see every every room change you've done. Haven't you changed your room about 6 times?

Dude I was drunk and smashing the wall down with a baseball bat and a ninja sword...it wasn't exactly a well planned thing

It stays cooler... but there is no such thing as cold and damp in the desert.

I picked up blackout curtains yesterday. Possibly the best purchase I made all year. My bed is right next to a sliding glass door to the backyard facing east... I put these things up and along with blocking out the light, they block out a lot of the heat too.
