every year we a grow a garden, this year we did a small one just 3 tomato, some cucumbers, and some hot peppers. we've done potatos, corn (well attempted), watermelons, many differernt kinds of tomatos, green /hot peppers, and lettuce.

does anybody else here do one, and what do you grow?

I started a flower bed last year (mostly Lillies). I've got some more stuff on order (more lillies)...

I have 2 tomato plants and a couple of cucumber plants, but I only planted them 'cause someone gave then to me (and planted them late). There's really not a good place in my yard for full sun. Lots of trees provide shade that isn't conducive to a garden. The best place for a garden for me would be in the middle of the back yard. That's not gonna happen.

If my "experiment" this year with the 2 tomato and 2 cuke plants work out, I may expand my "garden". I've got an Iris and Rose of Sharon plated with the veggies right now

I actually can't wait to get a home so I can do the lawn and garden, its pretty lame but I really enjoy that stuff. I like making the home look nice on the outside as well as the inside. I used to love working outside at my parents house, its always a great feeling when your all done and you can look at how good the house looks.

Plus my girl loves flowers (not many woman who don't) so she won't mind me spicing up the front of the house

I used to when I was a child. Now that I've got a house, I'll start again.

It's too late in the summer now, and I'm too busy to focus on the outside just yet. But come fall I'll probably do some fall perennial planting (suggestions?).

Come spring I'll go crazy with the veggies. I love fresh tomatoes.

Oh and I've been growing a little herb garden in pots preparing for the move !!

I did a vegetable and herb garden for the first time this year. My father does one every year but this is my first. I went a tad overboard though and planted 24 Tomatoe plants. But I love bruschetta and tomatoe salad so they'll all get used.

Pics tommorrow.

we also grow tomatoes and green chilli and eggplants
The best part is picking them off the plants and enjoying it at dinner.

We are looking to put a raised garden bed and start with some veges. Is May/June too late in the season for this?. Any thoughts/suggestions.

I grow Zombie plants in mine.

Actually, I'm not much for gardening. I'd have been lost in an agrarian society.

I want to eventually, but I'll have to get some raised planters so my dogs can urinate/defecate in the soil.. We used to have an herb garden but one of my dogs loved the smell so he'd always pee in it.. Didn't want to eat those herbs.

Prior gardens haven't been what we'd call success, so I started over from the ground up.
It has tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, squash, lettuce, green beans, cucumbers, artichokes, red bell peppers & red onions.
oh, and strawberries down below.

I HAD some veggies planted in pots, but we had a hell of an ice storm about a month ago and it wiped them out. I was so disappointed! I guess I'll try again next year.

tomatos, cucumbers, squish, green peppers and hot peppers this years garden is doing well, used the black plastic sheeting to cut down on weeds has made all the difference, along with a timed watering system, = very low maintance this year

O.K., Finally finished. We've got strawberries, lettuce, cabbage, 6 different tomato varieties, banana peppers & chile peppers, beans, gourds, cucumbers, squash, corn and sunflowers.

overhead shot

and here is what the old garden (pictured in my old post) looks like now. It has herbs as well as artichoke, asparagus, bell peppers, and blueberries.

as you can see, I figured

A SiQ TL - That is impressive!

I don't have a lot of room but the gf loves fresh herbs and tomatos so I tried a wall garden. In the left hanging basket are a few strawberry plants, then some leaks, basil, cilantro, parsley, oregano, purple basil, rosemary, some assorted little flowering plants, heirloom tomatoes in the pot, and a few cherry tomatoes hanging.

It's hard to see here but on the ledge there is some kale and broccoli in a planter (that is probably too small) and then a palm with some flowers.

nice work siQ! I am going to attempt a garden this year. Last summer my FIL bought 4-5 tomato plants, and we all enjoyed those, so gonna try and expand on that this year. Only problem is that I have limited garden space in the yard, gonna have to use the flower beds next to the house, and with all the deer/fox etc that come through, I need to protect them without looking terrible. Gonna have to get going on that soon.

I'm starting with tomatoes, beans, green peppers, cucumbers, and green and yellow squash

Thanks.
Yours looks great as well. Way to use a limited amount of space to your benefit. Post an update pic in a couple of months when everything takes off.
Good luck with your heirlooms. I tried them last year and didn't have much luck.

Thanks Walsh, I started out the same way, a little garden up against the fence. It never really did well because our soil (hardpan) sucks. Next year went raised and bigger, couple of years later even bigger. It's addictive.
Post up some pics of what you end up doing. I'm lucky I don't have to deal with the unwanted visitors that you do, my biggest pain is the cats that want to in mine.

thanks! The tomatoes look pretty ghettoish. They are my FIL's thing, and he is in a wheelchair, so they go in buckets which are then put on the patio table so he can get around to all of them. Not sure how I am going to do the rest of them just yet, but they have good soil and sun all day though.
