Vermont Castings Grills?

Have you any experience with this brand?

I'm thinking of going with this guy:

Any other brand suggestions? Don't say Weber. Everyone says Weber. But they're FUGLY now. They all have that fake stone plastic shit all over them. No Weber.

And how do you keep a stainless steel grill looking good? My mom just got a Thermos brand grill, and in two months it's already all brown and purple stained... mostly from the heat I think.

Is there anyway of preventing this?

I have a VC grill and it OWNZ...

Any grill that has 303 stainless will not turn color nor rust.

You will not be disappointed if you buy that grill.

That looks awesome. How much can you get it for?

<------- has an ugly weber.

edit: wow...that's almost $1K. I think I'll stick with my $400 ugly weber.

Home Depot sells it for like $650... but I've seen intermittent sales as low as $500. I'm guessing as summer wears on it will be down to $400 or so.

For record, I think HD sells a slightly different model (VM450SSP) then the one pictured above. Seems to be the same specs though, and looks the same, so I'm not sure the difference.

Consumer Reports ranked the HD model as the 4th best midsize grill in June, and the model above it as the first best.

Question regarding the other thread...
How come you went with natural gas? Besides the fact that you don't have to refill tanks I don't see the advantage. Natural gas grills can't be moved, correct?

Yeah good question. What should I go with? What is involved with getting natural gas?

This is whats scaring me about the stainless steel covers. The black covers dont look nearly as good but may be the safest bet

VC was one of the other grilles I was considering... I just don't like the look of stainless

The small local appliance place that I got my Weber at only sells the VC's and Webers. Owner says he won't sell the crap like the box stores...

Greenmonster, who got his Weber with a green hood (instead of black) just to be different

Your local fireplace store should be able to recomemnd someone to install the gas line. I was going to go it myself, but then got smart and paid someone. It cost me $150.

Why did I go NG? I don't have to worry about tanks nor running out. My grill is on my deck and is on a cart. So it can be moved for cleaning, etc.

I don’t know what distance you’re talking, but that’s a pretty good price.

When I put my pool heater in, the gas company wanted 10-dollars a foot to dig and bury the gas line.
My tank is on the far end of a 33 foot long pool and the filter/heater is on the near end.
35+ feet so I saved about 400-bucks by doing it myself.

About 20 feet.... All parts, etc included.

It was done by a guy who works for the gas company and does this on the side. Cash deal.

He T-ed off the main, after the outside gas meter (already had a T installed), went down into the ground with galvanized pipe... Ran the flexible line underground (along the house)... Up to the grill on the side of the deck. All brass fittings.

I thought the price was pretty good two. Took him and his co-worker about 1 hour or so.

I ended up getting a Char-Broil Stainless Steel grill. Not bad. The Weber and Vermont Castings stainless grills are MUCH better, but I only paid $399 delivered for the Char-Broil.

My parents outdoor grill is a stainless steel Viking...they got it as part of package when they redid their kitchen. Its pretty damned badass...has a smoker and everything.

I'm trying to remember the name of the one they had before that, it wasnt stainless steel, but it was another very high end brand. I'll try and think of it.

650 is a bargain for that grill. VC is a good brand from what I hear.

FYI, we were looking at the Vermont Castings but ended up getting the Char-Broil Commercial Series stainless Steel grill. After doing some research this seemed to be the best bang for the buck. Additionally, it was ranked either #1 or #2 big grill in Consumer Reports.

Well, they're still good grills. Just check the cooking surface... I've noticed that a lot of the companies are going to porcelain surfaces and moving away from stainless steel b/c they're getting cheap.

So as long as they're still using SS cooking surfaces, you should be good....
