running shoes

ive been using my xtraing gym shoes to run, but they are f'ing my foot bones up

what should i look for in a shoe, and what are some knowledgable stores to buy from?

I have the New Balance 707s......best shoe I've ever owned.

New Balance seem to be generally regarded as the best running shoes.

I personally like Nike Shox Ride better. Depends on how you run, and your size. Shox are great if you are 175 lbs +, but under that I've heard you don't really get the full benefit.

Try to find an actual running store instead of a general shoe store. The salespeople can really help you out with determining the best shoe for your foot, body, and style of running.

I also really like Adidas Climacool when its hot out.... the breeze through the sole really does make a difference, and they are insanely light. Might not have the same degree of effect if you aren't running in 115 degrees though.

i weigh 2 bills, and from ski/snowboard/bball/hockey boots/skates i have always had trouble finding a good fit...they had to hack my head titaniums for a solid 5 hours to grind away enough to make them fit...my snowboard boots had to be stretched...i went through 20 pairs of ball shoes till i found some suede jordans that fit...my skates just hurt till i take them off

my feet are the devil, so which company tends to lean toward comfort/sizing over performance and weight?

You need to first determine if you have an aggressive arch or a flat arch or something in between. Depending on what your foot is, this will narrow down your shoe options. I have a medium arch and tried some Brooks and Asics and went with some Asics. I like New Balance, but they tend to be for people with more arch.

I'd go to an actual running shoe store to get advice and then shop for your shoes once you are knowledgable. Don't be afraid to try 2-3 different pairs and return the ones that you don't like. I had to.

I've been wearing Saucony for a while now and love 'em. They might not be the cheapest but are worth every penny.

it looks like every brand has a shoe to fit many different foot types, so this shouldnt be as bad as i thought...theres a running store in hermosa that is allegedly pretty knowledgable so when i get home ill check them out

A co-worker is an avid runner and he says some people choose to buy shoes 1/2 size bigger so their feet are not so cramped. Just a thought. Sometimes you have to try different things before you find what is best for you.

^this is only true if the shoe doesn't already have a toe box, many of the upper end shoes already account for this

the running store should easily be able to tell you whether a shoe does or not

basically it is a larger or wider area at the front of the shoe to accomodate for the pressure on your feet and to give them room to expand while you are running longer distances...

i can't find a decent picture but it is just like it sounds, the "box" if you will that is the part of the shoe where your toes are

Gotchya - reason I ask is because after about 35 minutes of elliptical, my toes begin to feel numb. The elliptical motion applies more pressure to the front of the foot, so maybe that is the problem. I have some Asics that are "roomy" enough, so I don't think that is the problem.

my toes go numb on the elliptical too. I don't think there is anything you can do about it (shoe-wise).

I just do a minute standing on my toes and it goes away.

Yup, I have two pair. One strictly for the gym and one for street wear. I love them.

And now that the new model is out, the old style can be found on sale.

New Balance. i have very narrow feet and hardly any arch, they are the only sneakers i buy. go to their store too, don't go to sports authority or some shit store like that. They don't stock the upper end models, and the hard-to-find sizes/widths. my advice: spend a few extra dollars and get a good pair, otherwise you won't do a bit of good.

Ok, I need new running shoes. When I first got my current ones, I needed a wide 11, now with the weight loss, I wear a 10 1/2 normal, so I have more options.

Im leaning towards Nike Shocks, but any thing better?
