Hey guys,

Could any of you (especially Biker and F23A4) tell me where you are finding these sales numbers?
I would like to use them as data in an assignment I'm working on for one of my marketing courses; however, I have to provide a source and not simply numbers that could be made up for all my prof knows.

Thanks for any quick replies and links to sites.

Talking Sales #s

Every manufacturer posts their monthly sales on their sites around the 1st of the month. Such as:Afterwards, car news sites such as leftlanenews.com & even regular news sites such as Yahoo will post comparison articles.

Hope this helps.

Well you could do as was suggested ^^ but I'm lazy and don't feel like re-inventing the wheel. I just go to the Car Chat section of clublexus (http://www.clublexus.com/forums/car-chat-139/) and copy the info from the monthly sales thread (it's stickied at the top) - it's well done and has all the originating info links.

I wonder if the first G37 figure includes the coupe. If not, the G37 had a massive jump in sales over April.

I just checked and the G37 sedan only had sales of 2,885 last month, not 3,865.

My dad works part-time at the local Lincoln dealer for fun (he got bored being fully retired) and he says things have really picked up lately. He also said they have been selling Navigator's left and right. I wonder if those customers have been watching gas prices the last 3-4 weeks or so...

And the RX is over 11/1 sales ratio compared to the Lexus GX. Never could figure out the GX, sorta like the IS of the Lexus SUV family.

^ GLK has been going strong since its debut. It's a good way to get a brand new 3-pointed star emblem. It's actually cheaper than the RDX with tech package if you don't get all fancy with the options, and that's far from it being a stripper.

Most interesting is Nissan Maxima. 6000. much more than Infintit G and Acura TL.

Audi Q5 at 1400. Pretty close to GLK which is a cheaper vehicle.

VW reports May sales gain

Thanks to strong sales in its two largest markets, Volkswagen – Europe’s largest automaker — was able to post its first sales gain of the year during the month of May. Bucking the current sales trend, VW’s global sales increased 1.5 percent last month, totaling 556,700 sales.

Volkswagen’s global sales increased on the back of strong demand in China and Germany – the automaker’s two largest markets. VW posted an impressive 36 percent sales gain in its home country of Germany last month, largely due to a government-sponsored scappage program.

The VW brand saw even stronger sales growth, with sales up 10 percent last month. VW sales chief Detlef Wittig attributes the brand’s strong sales month to its fresh lineup. “We have to some extent been able to uncouple ourselves from an overall market that remains very weak thanks to our strong, young product range plus the additional sales advantage that comes from the comparatively high residual value of our used cars,” Wittig said in a statement.

However, the news wasn’t all rosy as most global markets have yet to show signs of recovery. “With the exception of China, global passenger car markets are not showing any signs of recovery. It is not clear whether the markets have hit rock bottom yet” the automaker said in a statement.

According to Automotive News, VW’s five month sales are down 7 percent, comparing favorably to the overall market drop of about 20 percent.

^ as the article mentions their sales numbers would have been inline with everyone else but for the new car subsidy program. And the sales may have been good but it is of low end models such as the Polo.

Lightbulb If I am Not Mistaken

The 2009 TSX production stopped a while ago thus limiting availability because the 2010 is about to be launched (including the v6). Same goes for the RL but I doubt that we will see as much of an upswing in sales as we will w/ the TSX.

Last month had some interesting things happen: the relatively new Corolla is taking a beating this year(not sure why), the new Maxima is doing very well & Ford is back on the rise.

Yeah - forgot about the MY changeover for the TSX.

The TDI numbers are pretty incredible for the Jetta, especially for the wagon. Honda would have done well to intro a diesel TSX or Accord or even a CR-V.

That's a stupid analysis to make, based on a single month of data, particularly given the 51,082 vehicles sold by Acura this year as against the 37,845 sold by Audi.

Ah, thanks for the info! That makes sense now. While the Maxima is still doing very well, but compared to May 2009, it fell down by around 1500 units I believe (6000 vs 4500). Any reason for that?

You already proved my point. 38k Audis brings more revenue than 50K Acuras.

What "point?" Your supposition based on one month of sales is badly and obviously contradicted by the six month pattern of sales: Audi is getting schooled- still.
Your unsupported assertion about "more revenue" has no link or basis-- the only information for the past couple of years shows that VW (with Audi and Seat) has generated much lower profit for its revenues than Honda (with Acura) for the past 2 years-- http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortu.../19/index.html.

You also posted unsupported assertions about VW's profits, without any supporting basis in that thread: https://acurazine.com/forums/automotive-news-6/honda-sales-marketing-financial-news-693944/.
Based on that, it seems everything you post comparing Honda/Acura to VW/Audi will be or unsupportable.

Have fun posting on AZ and enjoy your TSX (even though it's no Audi).

Let me give u Q1 2009 numbers. Toyota had $36B of revenue.

http://www.tradingmarkets.com/.site/...elatestories=1
Quarterly net revenues declined to 3.536 trillion yen from 6.567 trillion yen in the fourth-quarter of 2008 and 4.803 trillion yen in the third-quarter of 2008.
VW had $33.5b based on averae exchange rate.

http://media.vw.com/index.php?s=43&item=410
Group sales revenue 11.2 percent below the prior-year figure at EUR 24.0 billion (excluding Scania: 17.1 percent below previous year)

Honda is now half the size of VW group based on Q1.

Ahttp://www.tradingmarkets.com/.site/news/TOP%20STORY/2317268/?relatestories=1mong rivals, Honda Motor Co., Ltd. (HMC | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) last month reported a net loss for the fourth quarter, negatively impacted by a sharp fall in revenues on double-digit decline in segmental unit sales and currency translation effects. Net loss was 186.16 billion yen, or US$1.895 billion, compared to prior year's profit of 25.43 billion yen. On a per basic share basis, loss was 102.59 yen, or US$1.04, compared to last year's profit of 14.01 yen. Consolidated net sales and other operating revenue fell 41.6% to 1.784 trillion yen, or US$18.16 billion, from 3.056 trillion yen in the prior year

THink over Q2 2009. VW is the only manufacturer that is increasing sales. Toyota/Honda is facing 40% revenue decline and 30% Volume decline across the world.

So you have absolutely no support or numbers for your assertions about Audi or Acura revenue!

Based on your latest post and the links' absence of reference to Audi or Acura, yes, your assertions are and you are talking out of your ass about Audi/Acura revenue.

Keep polishing that crystal ball with your printouts of industry extrapolations based on a single quarter's performance which counterpoints years of data...

UPDATE: Audi Bucks Trend In June With 1.3% Rise In Car Sales
FRANKFURT (Dow Jones)--Audi AG (NSU.XE) said Wednesday that it recorded a 1.3% sales rise on the year in June to around 91,200 cars, bucking the industry trend of contracting demand for luxury vehicles amid the economic downturn.

"We will finish on target - achieving our sales forecast of 900,000 cars in 2009," Audi executive board member Peter Schwarzenbauer said in a statement, adding that the company's current order intake confirms its outlook for the full year.

Audi, the premium brand of Volkswagen AG (VOW.XE), Europe's largest automaker by sales, posted a 9.7% sales decline to around 466,000 cars in the first six months of the year.

"Since April we see that sales are stabilizing. The trough of the crisis is reached," Schwarzenbauer told reporters during a telephone conference.

He said Audi may return to its record sales level of 1 million cars reached in 2008 in two or three years' time, with annual sales of the upcoming small A1 model accounting for around 80,000 vehicles.

Demand for cars deteriorated sharply toward the end of last year as credit markets turned sour and consumer confidence waned amid the financial crisis. Additionally, luxury car makers received less support than mass market manufacturers from government-backed incentive schemes to trade in old cars as these programs mainly fostered sales of smaller vehicles.

On Tuesday, German rival BMW AG (BMW.XE) posted a 13% sales decrease for its core brand last month to 105,220 cars. This translates into a 19% sales decline to 513,591 vehicles in the first half of the year.

The world's second-largest manufacturer of premium cars after BMW, Daimler AG's (DAI) Mercedes-Benz brand, experienced a 5.4% fall in sales in June compared with the same month last year to 100,300 cars. Mercedes-Benz's sales in the January-to-June period were down 19% compared with last year at 483,300 cars. BMW and Mercedes-Benz both noted, however, that markets appear to be stabilizing as the pace of the downturn is slowing.

Audi in recent months narrowed the sales gap with its two German peers, mainly due to the launch of important new or revamped models, along with a favorable regional sales mix, including a relatively small presence in the shrinking U.S. market and a large presence in the growing Chinese market.

Among the key models driving Audi's sales are the new-generation of its best-selling A4, the new Q5 small sports-utility-vehicle and the new A5 coupe.

Schwarzenbauer said Audi's U.S. sales are expected to fall around 10% on the year in 2009, compared with a slump in the overall market of around 30%. He said Audi plans to launch a hybrid version of the Q5 in the U.S. at the end of 2010.

In 2008, the Ingolstadt-based automaker fell short of its initial expectations with 87,760 cars sold in the U.S. In the first six months of 2009, Audi's U.S. sales were down 16% on the year at 37,845 cars.

BMW and Mercedes-Benz both sell about three times as many cars in the U.S. per year and were thus hit significantly harder by the dramatic market downturn and eroding residual values.

Audi's products look good - A4 sedan/avant, A5/S5, and Q5. If one needs AWD, it's well worth checking out.
