Yea but i think the worst year at indy still had more in attendance than any other race that season. The following season many were scorn by the douche baggery from teh previous year.

No, more precisely, the point is attendance at a race is not what lines Bernie's pockets; the king's ransom he charges countries who are stupid enough to pay, lines his pockets and to them, he is beholden.

so are you saying he willingly, knowingly and intentionally caused the death of the Indy event?

if that's the case, then I'll be joining you, pitchfork and torch in hand.

Yes. The final years leading up he kept charging more and more. The George family was unwilling to pay what he wanted but tried to negotiate but that failed because of that Douche Bag.

me thinks the money he extorts out of countries that want to host a race directly lines his pockets, while money earned from the event at least gets split although unevenly amongst all the stake holders, and this is why he's always trying to flop venues around.

I think you're right Dougler and the money he gets varies from venue to venue. Monaco pays $0 in promotion fees while Canada paid $110M over 5 years while U.S. was paying something like $175M for 5 years-it just depends.

Ferrari are reportedly set to dump Kimi Raikkonen at the end of this season, offering the Finn a massive pay-off to step aside for Fernando Alonso.

Rumours of Raikkonen's pending dismissal began last season when poor results and what appeared to be a lack of motivation on the 2007 World Champion's behalf grabbed headlines.

The speculation grew this year as the Finn competed in his debut World Rally Championship event, even revealing that rallying could be his future line of work when his current Ferrari deal expires at the end of 2010.

According to The Sun, a Formula One insider has revealed that the Scuderia are intent on dumping Raikkonen, offering him a massive pay-off.

'They say the Italian giants have told the 2007 World Champion he can have half the value of his 2010 contract - thought to be worth £25million - to end it one year early,' the tabloid has reported.

Should Raikkonen part ways with Ferrari at the end of the season it would pave the way for Alonso's arrival with the double World Champion believed to already have a contract for 2011.
Kimi

He's been a huge disappointment for Ferrari.

Recently but he also won the F1 title in his first year at Ferrari, but his motivation since that has been disappointing. Not sure of his salary but is he's really making the 30M+/year Euro's some claim, it's ridiculous.

F1 TEAMS TO RETURN TO QUALIFYING ON LOW-FUEL IN 2010

Formula One teams will go back to qualifying on low-fuel for the final session next season.

According to the new sporting and technical regulations published by FIA for the 2010 season, the final 10 cars involved in the Q3 qualifying session will not have to declare their fuel levels due to the fact there will be a ban on refueling next year.

That should bring back the days of a real qualifying shootout in which the fastest car is actually the one on the pole. That was not always the case under the current system as teams were forced to declare their race day fuel levels before Q3, meaning different strategies forced teams to use different fuel levels.

Other changes to the rules will see eight cars knocked out in both Q1 and Q2 to take into account the expected increase to 26 cars next season on the starting grid.

The current point system will also be maintained for at least one more season. There have been recommendations to go to an Olympic-styled medal system in which the driver with the most wins would be declared the world champion.

Even though the FOTA-based teams have agreed not to use the KERS system next year, the FIA rules have increased the weight of the cars to 620kg to take into account the additional weight of the energy recovery system.

Tire warmers, which were also expected to be banned along with refueling, will remain - at least for one more season.

Missing from the rules is Max Mosley's proposed two-tier system for teams which signed up for the FIA's cost control program. That plan was effectively negotiated out of the rules by FOTA, who agreed to sign a new Concorde Agreement if the budget cap proposal was dropped.

I'm sorry, but you guys that think F1 should be unrestricted development in this day and age need to get your heads out of the clouds. The current level of technology available simply costs too much to be sustainable for the series. Period.

Now should they pursue this latest engine proposal? Hell no. What I'd like to see is more or less keeping things like they are now but divide the season in half or into thirds. Let everyone have a shot at one or two engine evolutions per season. I'd also like to see the same philosophy adopted in sportscars with their weight penalties and/or air restrictor limits.

The Williams team is planning to use KERS in next year's car, despite the Formula One Teams' Association having agreed to drop the system voluntarily.

FOTA teams announced in June that they would not be using KERS in 2010 as they deemed the technology, used by a minority of squad this year, was too expensive.

The pact, however, could now collapse, with Williams having confirmed it is continuing with the development of its KERS with the intention of using it in next year's car.

"We fully support the use of KERS and always have done," Williams technical director Sam Michael said on Tuesday.

"Given the environmental and sustainability pressures that Formula 1 is going to face in the future, KERS is a positive step for the sport.

"It's in next year's regulations, so we're continuing developing our system with a view to using it on next year's FW32."

Williams, developing a flywheel-based KERS, has not used the system this season.

The Grove team recently rejoined FOTA after it was suspended earlier this year when it broke ranks with the rest of FOTA and entered the 2010 world championship before the FIA's initial deadline.

Only McLaren and Ferrari have been using KERS regularly this year.
Here we go again.

Not unrestricted but for the love of god quit flip flopping back and forth every other year to something they had a year or 2 before. Cutting costs isnt changing the rules every year to make for more expensive R&D. Somethings shouldnt be restricted as much as others. Pretty soon this sport will be like nascar with the same body and motors for every one. Its not what the sport is about.

http://formula-one.speedtv.com/artic...orths-in-2010/

Williams has agreed a deal to run Cosworth engines in 2010, according to our sources in the Suzuka paddock.

A formal announcement is not expected for some time, and when quizzed on the matter by Speedtv.com, technical director Sam Michael would only comment: “I cannot talk about engines. They will be 2.4 V8s – that’s all I can say.”

The team revealed some time ago that it would not continue its Toyota deal – which commits it to a driver nominated by the manufacturer – into next season. It had been pursuing a possible reunion with Renault, and intriguingly Sir Frank Williams sent a letter to the FIA during the ‘crash-gate’ scandal outlining his respect for his former engine partner.

Cosworth appearedto be Plan B, but it seems that the team has decided to return to the updated version of the engine that it used during 2006. The arrival of Williams means that there will now be five teams using Cosworths next season, with Manor/Virgin. Lotus, Campos and US F1 already committed.

The extra budget will no doubt help with development, while crucially Williams will also provide a valuable benchmark for the four new teams.

World champion Jenson Button says he is now ready to discuss his future with Brawn, the Briton making it clear he wants to stay with the team.

Button has delayed talks about his future until he had clinched the title, which he achieved after finishing in fifth place at the Brazilian Grand Prix last Sunday.

The Briton said his main preference is to have a strong car to defend his crown next year, but made it clear he wants to stay with his current team.

"I'm most interested in being in a competitive car in which I can achieve," Button told reporters during a media event in London on Monday.

"This is the first year that's been possible and I've enjoyed it.

"I'm not going to look for another team just because they say they'll pay me a load of money. I want to be with Brawn, we've not discussed a contract yet and it was right not to do so because we had to focus on winning a world championship.

"Now we can discuss it in a few days. I'm certainly going to put some pressure on them but I'm not that expensive."
Very modest.

Renault may be considering the sale of its Enstone based Formula One team but staying on the grid as an engine supplier only.

That is according to the Swiss publication Motorsport Aktuell, while naming two prospective buyers for the French carmaker's team.

One buyer was identified as Gerard Lopez, co-founder of venture capital firm Mangrove, and the other a Russian by the name of Andrej Krajnik, who is linked with the existing Renault sponsor Megafon.

F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone told the Folha de S.Paulo newspaper before leaving Brazil last weekend that he "just talked to a guy who wants to buy one of the teams".

Donington Park to lose GP? The $215 million that they were planning to raise by a bond issue was called off due to lack of interest.

Sadly it would seem this year, likely Rubinho's penultimate year in F1, was his last best chance to be World Champion.
