Double Din Dash kits for a 2001 CL Installing Avic D3

hey everyone new to the forum here, just got a 2001 acura cl last month, needing to install the pioneer avic d3 i had in my previous car. The install shop is saying they are going to have to custom fabricate a trim/trim kit to install the headunit and that'll cost 200-$300. Do any of you guys know where i can find a double din dash kit for a 2001 cl that isnt going to cost me an arm and a leg? I am open to ideas such as a kit with two single dins and cut the plastic in the middle, anyone have any ideas as to what i should do or know of anywere where i can find a double din kit? thanks!
P.S. if you have pictures of the install with a avic d3 those would be nice!

Sorry but that is pretty much the only option unless you have experience and the tools to correctly make your own kit. Theres a guy on the forum who custom makes them for a good price and does a very very good job. Look for his thread in the black market section under sponsored sales.

200 for a dash kit seems up the wall insane there arent any other alternatives that are cheaper

Honestly, the kit on here is cool. but I got my kit done up for me in NC for 150 and I have suede around the trim. I mean I like that kinda stuff, but it could have been covered in anything or kept plastic. My suggestion is to just keep looking. I mean every dollar saved counts. Bc at the moment if you pay for a kit off here its 220, plus your install price. Not saying the kit isnt nice, but if your looking to be cost effective it isnt. If you go to a shop you can work that out for maybe that price or less total. Be wise and look hard.

You'll pay for quality, whether you order a kit here, or get someone to custom make one for you. Go cheap and you'll get a standard hacked black plastic piece. Either will work, its just your call what you want.

I sent you an email uncald4...I've already got an existing stock navi. Im assuming I can just disconnect the wiring from the stock navi to the bose system. That way I would be able to use the stock navi for navigation and listen to audio CDs on the AVIC-D3.

im getting my D3 installed by a local shop. They are gonna make the dash kit for me for $150, plus $50 for install. Ill post how it looks, they assured me there will be no gap between the radio and the pocket above the radio like the one pictured above.

i think i understand what your saying, they may have used mdf to build part of the radio surround, but the front is plastic. I dont see anything wrong with that.

It's the Pioneer trim ring glued to a piece of wood. You can see it in the first picture because the edges are not spray painted well. I have lots of those trim rings in my shop. If one of my installers tried to pass that off as a dash kit I would fire their ass lickety split.

Just thought id share another option with the people on this forum. I'm sure you take pride in what you do, and your work looks nice, I just wasn't looking to pay that much, so i went another route.

Maybe ill shoot ya an email if i ever have problems with my current setup and you can make me one.

I'm not trying to be mean. I just think that you got hosed. You mentioned before that your installer only charged you $150 for that. It is either a Pioneer or Kenwood trim ring glued to a piece of wood. I can go out to the shop an slap that together in under 10 minutes. Definitely not worth $150 let alone half that. It does look like they tried to paint (or use black marker) on the outside edge. They forgot to black out the inside edge where the D3 comes through the hole. It's obviously wood with a trim ring glued to it.

Dood.. Not trying to be a jagoff either but everything is evident in the pictures.. I would rather pay a extra $50 for better quality.. I believe this is what everyone is looking at:

What they were gonna do originally was a modified metra or sooche, Similar to yours i believe. the price i quoted was for that. I ended up having them do what you see in the pictures for 100 dollars, 50 for the install 50 for the dash kit, For the price im perfectly happy with it, and unless you really stare at it under a bright light you cant tell anything is wrong.

You could have put the dash kit in yourself, its only 4 screws. I paid my installer $300 (cash under the table) to install all this;

Avic D3 with bypass
Avic D3 bluetooth adapter
Avic iPod adapter
Run all Monster Cable for power/ground/speaker wires
Viper 5900 with remote start and keyless entry
Kappa door speakers
Monster Cap
Kicker 1000.1 mono amp
Kicker solobarics x2 10" L5's

the gap is just because the installer did not tighten down the mounting screws on the "drawer assembly" very well. Easy fix. You got a damn good deal on that install.

Its not the gap on the "drawer assembly". Its under that, right above the CD slot (only big enough for a CD). Your damn right I got a good deal. Makes me feel better about all the $$$ I sank into the entire set up.

Install looks good. I just used a 15 dollar metra kit and it came out good.
Also I have a silver slim ps2 thats going in soon in the same exact spot.
