Ice Polish and waxing question
Ice Polish and waxing question
hi!
i am going to wash my car, then clay it. I was wondering if after I do that would it be okay to use the Ice Polish and then wax it? From what I've read they say to polish after you clay and then wax. I was just confused because on the Ice label it acts like you use that instead of wax. Thanks for taking the time to read and hopefully respond to this

You mention claying .. I hope its not the TW liquid clay. If it is .. forget it ... its not going to do a proper job and is a waste of your $$.
Ya hit that nail straight Dale..........Kristin, where in So Cal?
i am in Corona
haha yep gotta love the Corvette
woman with corvette who wants to love and take care of it!!!! That's a rare find!!! If you want some good OTC products, Meguires NXT line is very good. However if you want something that will last a bit longer, Four Star Ultimate Paint Protection from exceldetail (posted in this thread) is good for a few months. If you want something that can last upto a year, but requires upkeep and 3 days to apply, Zaino is the KING!

Zaino is good but not a years worth .. even 11 layers on a babied car doesn't make it a year. It might if its a garage queen and washed once a month but if its washed weekly and in the sun and exposed to winter it does last longer than the OTC but hardly longer than some of the other quality sealants. Klasse SG will last as long and #105 is up there along with Megs #21.
I realize this is an old thread, but I have a question concerning the Turtle Wax Ice. I have used it in the past with great success, but it had to be reapplied every two weeks or so to keep its shine. Every week when the weather was especially bad. Anyway, I bought a house about 6 months ago and that's been taking up most of my time. Now that things are starting to settle down and I'm getting settled in, I want to go back to washing more frequently.
So, the other day I went ahead and washed the car for the first time in a few months (I know, bad me.) After I washed and dried and pulled the car back into the garage I went to the car stuff shelf. Instead of reaching for the Ice, I went for the Nxt 2.0 that I got a few months ago. It was super quick and easy to apply, but not as quick and easy as the Ice. So, my question is, would it be appropriate to use the Ice on a more regular basis (every week to 10 days or however often I get the chance to wash the car) and the Nxt 2.0 every 4 to 6 weeks? Will the products interact with one another in a negative way?
And while we're on the topic, what exactly is the Ice anyway? Its not a polish, and its not really a wax either. Its kind of like Rain-X for paint. I will say that it does make unfinished plastic surfaces look fantastic.

1. Product has to be easy to use.
2. Product has to perform as expected or marketed (rare)
3. Product cannot be overpriced.
4. 1+2=3.
Ice is fairly easy to use from what I have heard, and affordable, but you seem to have a need to be using it quite frequently. Price goes up, no? I think its time to discover something new?
Also, use quick detailers for LIGHT cleanups and bird bombs, fingerprints.
Use a spray wax monthly to maintain your base coat protection. You could easily get 6 months of protection with a base layer x 2, and monthly applications of a quality spray wax.
My regimen:
2 base coats of either Duragloss 105, Four Star UPP, or 1Z Glanz.
Intermittent use of either Optimum Instant Detailer and Gloss Enhancer
or Finish Kare Poly Wipe Spray Detailer.
Monthly use of either Duragloss AquaWax or Optimum Spray Wax.
Functions:
Base coat protection is.......just that. Its your total base protection. The armour against the elements. Most provide some type of U.V. protection which is what really kills clear coats and Nubas.
Quick Detailers offer quick cleaning and temporary protection/slickness. They help resist adhesion of outdoor fallout i.e. sap, bird droppings, etc......
Spray Waxes offer instant, affordable and real protection. Not as durable as base sealants, but use after washes while drying, or after drying is complete. They take no more time to apply other then what it takes you to administer the product (A few sprays per panel).
Ice is a synthetic protectant. Not a Nuba as it does not contain refined Carnauba. Its Polymer protection, at OTC-DIY'r levels. MUCH better available.
But............its better then nothing, and that's normally the hurdle people struggle with, the actual labor involved. If you decide to not do anything, continue using ICE as it does offer protection.
