Pics - Pioneer AVIC-N1 Navigation/TV - Bluetooth Car Kit - 56K Warning!

Hey Everyone!

I've had some requests for some pics of my Pioneer AVIC-N1. It has Navigation/CD/DVD/MP3 and I added the GEX-P6400TV tuner.

I got the N1 professionally installed and mounted in the storage bin area. They basically just cut a square in my storage bin and inserted the deck in there. It is help down some screws which sit underneath the trim piece.

My recommendation to anyone thinking about mounting in the storage bin area is to buy the aftermarket MP3 attachment kit. Part # 08B06-SEC-210
They have it at http://www.handaaccessories.com/tsx.html Using this kit would be a little more sturdy and you could probably install it yourself to save some money.

These pictures were taken with my Nokia 3650 Camera Phone, so the quality is kind of crappy. Sorry about that. I will try to get a different camera and post more pics later.

Let me know if you have any questions about how things are installed.

Pic of the screen from far away with everything closed.

Close up to screen:

Pic of the screen while watching TV. I can post more pics of video/MP3/Navigation. Let me know if you want them. Down below is the concealed display for my Valentine 1.

Pic so you can see how far up the screen goes. It covers the A/C controls but I can still see the status. The deck has a button on top which will flip down the screen and then put it back in place after 10 secs.

The CD-VC1 steering wheel remote for the N1

The Microphones for my Pioneer CD-VC1 Voice Control for the N1 and the Bluetooth Car Phone Kit

My Bass Control Knob, Car Alarm LED, and Nokia CARK112 Command unit for Hands-free voice dialing and speaker volume control

My Bluetooth Speaker mounted inside the "NOT an Ashtray"

1. what kinda shop..name address???
2. Did they hook the avicn1 into AUX of the stock deck??? if not ...how did they do it?
3. did you use that Soundgate SNHOND3 adapter to hook it up??? if so...hows the sound ?
4. what about the clearance behind the screen???
5. I see your deck is not that far out compared to that guy's custom job with the wood, so can you see the screen clear at that angle????
6. How much was everything?
7. Where did they mount your GPS ant. at?

Those are two different kits. One that comes with the mp3 player, and one that comes with a cassette player. Correct me if i am wrong, but they do not sell an unfinished kit, where you can just insert your aftermarket deck. So you are suggesting that people should buy the mp3 kit for $435 dollars or the cassette deck for $240 dollars, and just rip out the cassette player or mp3 player that comes with it?

I feel that is a lot of money to dish out on a part that you are really only going to use the molding for. I know people don't like the way my friend and i mounted my headunit, however there is no need to dish out all that money when you could just create a fiberglass mounting right around the headunit if you wanted to. I know it is some work, but IMO it is not worth it to spend that much on a kit that you can just make yourself.

Abrams, you're wrong. They do sell the bracket without the player.

If you look up the part number of the MP3 player on Handa or someplace, and then you call your local Parts Department and explain that you want to buy the bracket only, you can. I don't remember how much it was, but not that much. I did this about 3 months ago, and I think it was Acura of Escondido I called or e-mailed because they sell the accessories on eBay.

So, basically, TSX536 had a good suggestion, and you dumped on it. Correct me if I'm wrong...

Last time i went to acura the parts department said that they do not sell it without either the cassette or mp3 player which is why I DIDN'T come out and blatenly post that he IS WRONG. But you know everything about electronics and everyone else is always wrong. My friend def knows just as much as you but isnt a pompus ass and that is why he never posts on any of these boards.

Hmmm... did you try being nice to the parts guy? Maybe that would work.

So apparently posting on the board equates to being a pompous ass?

ONCE AGAIN YOUR RIGHT- THE SERVICE GUYS AT ACURA HAVE IT IN FOR ME.

being nice to the parts guy?? what the hell does that have to do with anything...any parts department would want the the sale for the dealership...and considering hes from north jersey he probably goes to PARK AVE ACURA which has won best customer service numerous times and thats why they have people from all over nj and ny going there to get serviced....we at acl.com have the highest respect for PAA

It was a reference to his level of tact, NOT a slap at some acura dealer I've never heard of.

All I know is that 08B06-SEC-210 is the part number of the mounting kit, and Acura of Escondido sells it for $92.

El Guapo, could it be that you are really angry about something else, and you are taking it out on me? Jefe, The Three Amigos

P.S. Acura of Escondido sells the MP3 player and kit together for $365 on eBay...

I had one of my friends ask for help instating one of the avic-n1s. I first thought of using the mp3 mount and found all the part #s and everything. I work for a repair shop and I have good relations with all dealers because I order dealer only parts all the time. Well I tried to get the bracket and they said it was not available with out the tape or mp3 player.

well with further investigation I found out that I would not want to use it any way. It put the head unit to far back and the screen would be vertical if not tilted forward a little. This looked like crap and that’s why it had to be brought forward so that it could tilt back a little and be visible to everyone.

And it getting parts that come attached to other parts is as simple as calling your local parts department. Could someone one call and get me a blank face for the head unit or nav. With no buttons or anything. Just the plastic and vents. Because I have been trying to get one of them with no luck.

I doubt those have a part number in the standard acura system... best bet is to find out who does repairs for Acura on the HU itself, and ask them. The service manual for the HU will have that, but that's usually a seperate distribution channel.

Hey Thanks for the compliment dude. Here's the answers.

1. Warehouse Car Stereo - 209-474-1774
2. Hooked up to the AUX via the SNHOND3.
If I were you I would hook everything to the N1 and hook up your factory changer to the AUX input of the N1 via CD-RB10 cable that interfaces to the Hideaway unit on the N1.
This is far more complex setup, and would require more labor, but sound much better. I heard the factory deck actually attentuates some of the bass at high volumes in order to compensate for the crappy factory 6x9's.
3. Answered above
4. Not very much clearance behind the screen. I put it as far back as possible without hitting the A/C controls. The screen probably sits about about a 90-95 degree angle.
5. I can see the screen very clearly. I was very worried about this. But the Pioneer screen is such a great LCD that you can see it well from all angles. If you're leaning really far forward though and you are like right about with your steering wheel touching your stomach, then you can't see it well though. There is some blackness. This position is not a normal driving position at all though.
6. Cost.
$1480 AVIC-N1 plus CD-VC1 Voice control with steering wheel remote $40. I have seen it cheaper on ebay since though.
$240 GEX-P6400TV This is a ripoff, but the only Pioneer one that they make. You could also just get an aftermarket one that plugs into the Video IN, but I wanted the integrated controls and I have my Lyra Rd2780 hooked to the video in.
$300 install. Felt this was a little too pricey. I could have done most of it myself but I needed them to do the storage bin cut/mount and also hook up the VSS wire. It turns out they didn't couldn't even find that, so let me know if anyone finds it!
GPS antenna sits on the very front dash passenger side. It's not really noticeable there and I get great reception!

I agree I have way too much going on in my car...and I absolutely LOVE it!!
I'm getting my tint this week. Already got a good quote. Not sure what % I want to go with yet.

I know the knobs give it away some, but that is why I tried to mount stuff in OEM locations. The microphones are placed where Acura places the Mics for their non bluetooth car kit. The bass knob sits next to the VSA and I made sure not too put the Phoenix gold sticker that usually goes behind the knob on. The Nokia thing is tucked pretty close to the steering column. Everyone that has seen my car usually don't even realize all of the stuff I have until I tell them.

As another precaution, when I leave my car I usually cover the storage bin area with my car shade. I make it look like it had just been laying there. I'm hoping when a potential thief sees my car they will see the OEM deck and just be on their way.

If that ain't enough, I also engage my OEM AND aftermarket alarms. I want to get a battery backup for my alarm, that is one thing I dont' have yet.

So as you can see I tried to do all that I could to prevent thieves. When it comes down too it I heard if they want your car and they really know what they're doing, there is almost nothing you can do to STOP them bastards!

Just cross your fingers for me every1 and I'll do the same for you guyz!

Just like Elduderino says. They do sell the Mp3 attachment kit seperately. You just have to ask the right way. For some stupid reason some acura dealers try not to let you buy it seperately. I have been quoted from a seller on Ebay that he can get it for $78 shipped. I asked him if it was okay to sell it seperate and he said it was no problem at all. I believe it was Scott from Acura of Escondido, but I'm not 100% that was the dealership he's from.

I also have a friend that works at Acura of Stockton and he said they can get that part for $72 plus tax. As long as it has a seperate part number, then it can be bought seperately.

I'm not sure if this is true are not. Based on my measurements, then you would be able to use the OEM Mp3 kit. I downloaded the installation instructions for it from www.handa-accessories.com and it looks like it would work.

If you're worried about the deck being too far in then you can always adjust the way it is mounted. Based on the instructions the deck is mounted to the attachment kit by 4 screws holding the sides of the deck. When looking at my N1 there are a lot of screw holes on the sides, to allow for different mounting depths. So if the deck sat too far back then you could just move to a different set of screw holes to bring it out a little more.

What's interesting is when I compare the picture at handa accessories with my setup then the mounting location is almost identical.

All of this is theoretical though, so don't blame me if you buy the kit and it does not work for you. You're taking some what of a risk, but in the end if it works I think it would be totally worth it. You'll have a better support than my setup, you can revert back to the storage bin if you decide to take the deck out later, and you could install it yourself, with no cutting.

Just my

I don't think you should sell it. If you have an ipod .. just get an icelink and you'll be able to control the ipod through the steering wheel. I think that's what the Icelink does, it intergrate(sp?) the controls into the steering wheel.

N1<factory HU <snhond3 < icelink < ipod
From the factory HU .. just splice the wire and attach RCA to them to make it the ouput rca. that way .. you will have your cd changer, ipod, radio all being controled by the steering wheel. That's what i'm planning to do but with a 7300dvd or the 7500 dvd.

That looks sweet! You must live in safe neighborhood to put the stereo exposed like that. It's obviously not stock, and looks easy to remove.

Thanks for the compliment dude..and also for all the help with getting me a new sub in the other thread. I"m getting 12" w3v2 D2 just like you man!

It's actually bolted down behind the trim piece, but I wouldn't call it super sturdy. I do live in a good neighborhood. I park my car in the garage at home and at work it's parked right by my cubicle on a busy street. Luckily, I'm not in as high a risk area as others may be. I took that into account when I payed all that freakin $$$ lol...

Sup AznPersuasion...Haha...

I agree with that configuration! I don't have an Ipod but if I did I would go that route. I think the icelink may come with the SNHOND3, but you can buy it without. It's $200 with it and I don't know how much without. Kinda a lot of money...but your setup would be sick!

So how would you make the factory deck into RCAs ? So you don't think a line out converter would be needed? You think I can just get some RCAs, splice them, and connect to the front channel of the factory HU?

Also, I forget and I don't want to take my deck out, but does the N1 have standard speaker wire outs that I can just hook those up to the 4 channel inputs of the AMP?

FYI: The N1 has a seperate subwoofer output and controls, so hooking your sub up to the N1 as opposed to the Factory HU is much more favorable. That shit will sound much better.

One more FYI.

If you have a bluetooth car kit, then make sure they hook up the mute wire to the n1. It is the yellow/black lead on the main harness which contains the power/ground/illum etc.

My N1 mutes the radio whenever I recieve or place a call. The Navi voice is always on though, even if you're on the phone.

My pics are back had to fix on Photobucket.com.

Where are you pics nguyenzpry?
If you need me to host them on photobucket I can, but you could also get your own account. Let me know if you have any questions! I wanna see those pics...!!

also if you could get a sideshot for Abrams that would cool too. He wants to see some sideshots of our installs.

I bet it does! You should consider buying the CD-RB10 on Ebay for like $25. Then take the output of the CD changer and plug it into the the IP_Bus input of the N1 brain via the CD-RB10. You would then be able to use the CD changer as the AUX-in and never ever have to worry about taking your Navi disc out except to watch DVDs.

Just a thought! I'm going to do that when I have some time away from work. We are hitting the development season, so I'm programming hard, but when it's all done it's back to the TSX!

Where did they mount your GPS antenna and your N1 brain?

Oh yeah..one more tip..turn the loudness on! The sound is like night and day when it's on or off. Also select "Powerful" for the EQ curve.

Okay..Cool...yeah I see it. Mine is in the front right of the dash and my brain is also under the passenger seat. That's actually a good spot so that you can still get to the Inputs and outputs for the deck.

Yeah..if listened to Mp3s most of the time then you might not have to hook up the factory changer. It's really up to you! Just thought I would mention it.
