For those not old enough or/nor familiar with the Delta, to put it simply, the Lancia Delta of the 80s was then, what the Sti and Evo are now. And possibly more...

Wonder if Lancia could ever be a truly viable competitor in WRC again...

Wow ... Too bad that's not available here. Great competition for the other hot hatches like the R32/36.

Lancia answers Delta fans' prayers - - Source: Autocar

Quote:
The name died with the disappearance of the second-generation Delta in 1999, but Lancia seems to have bowed to pressure from fans and has kicked off the chain of events that would lead to the Delta’s return.

The new car will use the same platform as the next-generation Fiat Stilo to keep development costs down, and it could arrive in late 2007 or early 2008, depending on whether Fiat bosses decide to launch it or the new Stilo first.

A concept car could also appear next year to celebrate Lancia’s 100th birthday. Senior Fiat Auto insiders see the Delta as one of the two most important models in the company’s plans, along with the Suzuki-based Fiat 4x4 that will be arriving early next year. The big decision facing Lancia bosses is whether to launch only a front-wheel- drive Delta, or to take on the technological headache of converting the Stilo’s platform to take Alfa’s four-wheel-drive system, destined for the 147.

The design, previewed here by our artist’s impressions, will be a development of the five-door Stilnovo concept car shown at the 2003 Barcelona Motor Show. Fiat Auto boss Sergio Marchionne and Fiat President Luca di Montezemolo are said to have agreed to computer designs of the Delta, with work already underway on early clay models.

At the moment there are no plans to bring the new Delta to the UK, although if the Lancia line-up continues its recent resurgence it increases the chances of bringing in a limited number of left-hand-drive models, or even a full UK relaunch of the Lancia brand.

Very agressive design. I like it. It's sharp and chiseled, and doesn't make the small car look like a cartoon (Yaris, anyone?). I see some Alfa influence in the rear quater panel.

Lancia Delta HPE Concept revealed - - Source: http://www.leftlanenews.com/

Quote:
Fiat subsidiary Lancia has revealed its new Delta HPE Concept car, which will be on display at the Venice International Film Festival and the Paris Motor Show. While the production version of the car will probably never show up on U.S. shores, fans of Italian cars will undoubtedly be fascinated by Lancia's latest design exercise, which closely previews the next-generation Delta.

Post New version...?

WYHI...?

From Worldcarfans...

Quote:
Isn't this one of those true "back to the future" pieces? In September 2006, Lancia showed us the Delta HPE Concept at the 63rd Venice International Film Festival, but clearly not everyone has approved the direction, in which the modern "Lancia Delta design" is heading. While production of Lancia's new Delta is expected to start in 2008, we don't expect it to look quite like this!

These renderings brought to you by Infomotori.co.uk are based on the Delta HPE base structure with a strong trace of vintage elements. The car portrayed in the rendering features adaptive bi-xenon headlights, 18" alloy wheels, three massive air intakes and a large radiator grill and the classic 'Delta' rear window. Were Infomotori to carry out the planning of a future Delta HF, then it would come with Alfa Romeo's 230 bhp 1.8 JTB engine and a new 60/40 distributed "naughty wheel drive" four-wheel drive system. Voilà, a Delta HF Integrale for the model year 2009 is ready!

Head over to www.infomotori.co.uk to see more pictures of the gorgeous renderings!

Post 2008 Delta

From LLN...

Quote:
Fiat's Lancia brand will showcase its redesigned Delta wagon at the upcoming 2008 Geneva Motor Show next month. Built on an extended Fiat Bravo platform, the new Delta is based on the Delta HPE concept from 2006.

Not a whole lot else is known about the 2008 Delta at this time, but it's a safe bet you won't see one on U.S. shores in the foreseeable future. This will probably come as a disappointment to wagon fans, since the Delta is quite a looker.

Stay tuned to our coverage of Geneva Motor Show next month, when we'll have more details on the new Delta.

Italian styling in all its glory. Front looks a little like the Seat Leon.
