400,000 Mile Legend, Showroom Clean

Shared this on Autopia but an AZ member said I should post it here as well, so here goes...

I have owned this car since early 2003, and I bought it with 95,000 miles on it.

It's a 1994 Acura Legend LS coupe 6-speed. Still on the original engine, transmission, clutch, axles, exhaust, suspension (I have every receipt for every dollar spent on maintenance throughout the car's lifetime).

Recently had the roof, mirrors, hood, front fenders, and front bumper painted (fading and rock pitting consistent with age and mileage). All other paint is original.

This was the most involved detail I've ever done. Completely scrubbed and detailed undercarriage. Spent nearly an entire day on the engine, and a couple hours on the interior. I am currently using Meguiars Carnauba wax (step 3) along with a Mother's clay bar kit. Tires shined with Meguiar's Hot Shine and interior treated with Poorboys Natural Look.

The local Acura dealership is using the car as part of a high-mileage Service Department campaign, so it went into the showroom last night.

Current mileage...

And the unveiling...

Scrubbed & painted wheel wells and undercarriage.

Repainted brake calipers.

300,000 miles worth of dealership service receipts

Looking forward to the next 100,000 miles.

LOL! Cool... Thanks

I can't find the delete function here -- can I get rid of this thread somehow?

But thanks everyone for the positive feedback! I appreciate it.

I responded on your other thread, but how many miles do you put on your Legend a year?

You can kind of track my mileage by looking at the dates on my maintenance record. The most miles in a year was something over 60,000 in 2006.

60,000 miles in a year, unreal man!

only bad thing is the cost to replace the timing belt and other things over $1200

Car looks great! You did an awesome job with the detail. What gets me is the $16,000 that was put into the car. Thats a little over $1,000 a yr for maintenance!

Cost of car - 9,500.00
Maint ~ 5,000.00 from purchase to now?

Cost of car 14,500?

Real rough estimate because I didnt want to total things out

I am blown away at how great that car looks.

I don't remember where the thread is now but I remember about a year ago or so, there was an '88 Legend Coupe that had I believe somewhere below 1,000 miles on it. It was owned by a rich doctor from the Hamptons and he never drove it. The back seats had never been sat in. It was truly amazing and it was being sold for something like $15K at an Acura dealership. Really cool.

Well done!

Actually, the sum of the items listed from the oil change at 97,000 to the current entry (an alignment at 302,700) comes out to just over $10,000. But yeah, it's not that the car has been problematic, just that preventive/scheduled maintenance -- especially performed at the dealership -- isn't cheap.

Thanks all you guys! Makes it worthwhile when my hard work goes appreciated.

Wow, that's amazing! Great looking car man

Just curious, and you don't have to say if you don't want to...but did the dealership give you anything for using your car in their showroom? (or for spending so much money on maintenance through the dealership)? Looks like it really paid off though!

Actually it's getting tough to find stuff now! Mechanical parts are still readily available, but you can no longer get stuff like new OEM floor mats and lots of the trim pieces (interior and exterior) have been discontinued. Not to mention OEM fog lights and other accessories. If you want stuff like that for a Legend, you have to scrounge Ebay and stuff.

Nope, but I don't care. I have a second car to drive (1991 Prelude Si 4WS) and I offered the Legend to them. It's reward enough just to see the car get a little recognition.

Very impressive. If you were to sell that car, how much would you get from the dealership? Just curious.

I have no idea, but not much. I've been told that Blue Book doesn't account for anything over about 150,000 miles, so that's irrelevant. I don't care what the book says anyway. The bottom line is that there is no way I could replace this car for what I would get out of it. You can find really nice Legends with low miles and a decent maintenance history for $6-9k.

LOL, yeah, that must have been the month I went to Alaska and back... The Honda dealership in Fairbanks loved the car.

Amazing. Great work on keeping this car so nice, and for so many miles. Honda/Acura products are great when taken care of. Good luck with it and be sure to stick around with updates.
