Why do people do that? There was a kid on a lambo forum who was a regular for years claiming he had a purple diablo, constantly posted pics , no one had a reason to doubt him; that was until the owner of the car registered on the site and found out someone else was claiming they owned his car.

Alright guys, its time to tell you the truth. I don't own a Camaro, I just found the pics randomly on some site. I'll keep that person's identity confidential though, not their fault. I actually own a Corvette ZR1, its a pre-production model but still mostly functional.
Anyways, whatever helps people sleep at night I guess. There's a member on AZ who was recently banned that claims he's leasing a 335i at age 17 though.

I believe in working hard and paying for what you own too.... the only thing I don't pay is rent/utilities, but I offered to help my mom but she refused, multiple times. My parents haven't helped with a single cent of my car expenses.... by my own choice
the guy's name is TwinTurbo335. Any posts dissing his ride instantly results in flames, etc. he even has his 2G TL (which his parents probably got for him) in his avatar. He's a hypocrite.... he asked a member w/ an M3 (BoostedM3) if he raced anyone before, and when BoostedM3 pretty much embarrassed him, he fired back by saying anyone who buys a BMW is stupid, that's why he leased it. He also got a 2-week ban for trying to start shit with a mod.... in the same thread, no less
I can tell when someone works for their ride (you) from reading their posts. Or, at least when their parents bought/leased their ride for them, the person is mature about it which kinda shows that they're grateful instead of flaunting it which can get annoying..... which is the same as the guy who claimed the CLS to be his, but got exposed. That's even worse, it wasn't even remotely close to being his own ride.... it was some stranger's off the internet.

Regardless of where it comes from I could care less, so many are stuck on the mentality that if you didn't earn it your spoiled brat. There are just as many poor douche bags as there are rich ones, the difference is people are jealous of the wealthy ones.
There is also a huge difference between being able to make the payment and being able to afford the car. When I was 17 I was making a lot of money for a kid that age, and foolishly I bought a flashy car, knowing what I know now I would have got a civic and saved the difference. I guess that's part of youth, making mistakes and unwise choices and learning from them. That said there is no reason to belittle others regardless of your situation.
