Acura: ZDX news **First Drives & Official Press Release (page 22)**

Sporty Acura CUV Caught Testing Again

Acura confirmed recently a number of plans to expand its lineup with several all-new models in an attempt to compete with more established tier 1 luxury brands such as its German rivals, which currently offer full range lineups. The upmarket Honda label is limited to a handful of sedans and a pair of SUVs but the next couple of years will be very busy as the company prepares for the launch of a new coupe, a supercar, and according to these spy shots a new crossover as well.

The prototype for the upcoming sporty crossover was first spotted testing at night in California’s Death Valley back in August. The latest shots show the car during the day and reveal an extremely low roofline that starts to descend after the B-pillar. This gives it a coupe-like profile similar to BMW's X6, which will be one of its main rivals.

Acura is yet to reveal any specific details about a new crossover model, however the company’s vice president for corporate planning and logistics, Dan Bonawitz, confirmed recently that Acura’s first all-new model would be launched in 2010 and that it would be followed by the NSX-replacement later that same year.

This means the crossover could feature a V8 engine, which Acura plans to introduce within the next 18 months. The other engine option would likely include the current 3.7L V6. Honda’s Super-Handling AWD system would also likely come as standard.

I could care less about pointless crossovers.

Focus on a RWD sedan or coupe.

Forget all of these, I want them to be caught testing the new revised Acura grill.

I'm pretty sure crossovers sell more than entry level luxury coupes. That determines what direction Acura takes with their next vehicles.... they scraped by with V6s for as long as possible and when they realize that a V6 just won't cut it on the over $50k segment, they announce a V8. So they're just trying to take advantage of the market while they can.

Quick chop work here: The results are clear....it's gonna have the ugly Acura Beak

...and the beak is gonna be set far above the headlights once again (like the TL) instead of in line with them.

Hopefully the beak will be more TSX-like instead of TL-like. I can't stomach the latter one.

Spy Shots: Acura’s X6 Rival Spotted Near the Nurburgring

Posted: October 21st, 2008
Buzz up! Filed under: Acura, Spy Shots/Renderings

It looks like more Acura models will be getting a V8 rather than just the flagship RL sedan. According to these latest spy shots by GlobalMotors.net, Acura is working on an X6 rival that should hit the markets by 2011. A prototype was spotted driving around the streets of the Nurburgring.

Sources say that Acura will fit its new V8 in the crossover that was recently confirmed for the Acura RL flagship. Rumor has it that the crossover will carry an ‘MSX badge.’

Head over to GlobalMotors.net for more shots.

MSX? They really need to go back to "real" names instead of these stupid alphanumeric things.

...and their lettering designations are horrible.

"If" the "X" designates cross-over/SUV (MDX, RDX....MSX) then why is the small 4 door sedan called the TSX?!?!?

RL, TL.....TSX?!?!?

I honestly would like to see the design study where they showed the grill. Were the other designs that much worse that this was the best design?

There must have been a lot of funny koolaid being drunk during that study.

Instead of bringing all this attention by such camouflage queens, they should just use current bodies to test future platforms (like the stretch TSX).

This X6 competitor just makes no sense - it's not like this segment will take off like the SUV fad.

Definitely FWD based.

Only Honda would challenge the X6 and FX with a FWD platform.

stupid either way.. but that's where acura is advancing very fast

Still no push button start?
If this is really a 2011 vehicle, lots of things will change between now and then.

Biker, look again. I see the red push button on the dash, same as on the TL tech.

I see it as well. No way this is a 2011 intro. More like next spring/summer/fall as an 2010. The interior is production ready.

Some of you guys act like since Acura is coming out with this thing, they have dropped all plans for coupes and sedans with a RWD platform. It was already known that this CUV was on its way. Just because Acura has this thing coming out first, that doesn't mean it will be the ONLY thing coming out. Some of you forget the fact that Acura only announced its ambitions of being a Tier One company back in January. It hasn't even been a year yet! In these past ten months, Acura has done A LOT. Think about all the announcements, debuts and spyshots that have surfaced just in 2008. This year has probably been Acura's busiest year ever, and it's not even over yet. It's only going to get busier. The development of this CUV probably started around two years ago. During that time, the economic situation was much different than it is today. You can't just expect a company to have a car ready at the snap of a finger or scrap one just as fast. My point is, stop complaining about things that have no merit. Everything you guys are asking for is on its way, it just takes TIME. Let me apologize on behalf of Acura for not having an new NSX, coupe, and large sedan ALL on a new RWD platform with V8 and V10 power within 10 months of their announcement of Tier One. Seriously, some of you just need to MOVE ON or take a chill-pill and be patient.

I agree....

BUT, what you are failing to see or acknowledge is that these are things people on this board have been complaining about and wanting long before the Tier 1 stuff was announced. These are not new complaints, they are very, very old ones. The RWD/V8 complaint went back to before the 1st gen TSX, 3G TL and new RL came out. So we're now going on 6 years........

Fact is they should have acted sooner.

Fact is they should have acted sooner.
I understand the fact that people have been asking for these things for a while. However, back in 2002, Acura never announced, or even hinted that something RWD or V8 was coming anytime soon. Many of the tabloid car websites posted news articles about "confirmation from high-up Acura execs" and photo chopped images of a 1st gen RL with a new front fascia and called it the 2nd gen RWD RL with V8 power. The facts are that Acura NEVER released any sort of press release or made any sort of announcement that they were planning a RWD car and/or V8 engines. The fact is that we NEVER saw a spy photo of any Acura with a possible RWD setup and/or V8 engine. Fast forward to 2008 when Acura makes the being Tier One announcement and what do we get? An RL/TSX frankenmule with an unmistakeably RWD layout and possible V8 engine in the hood just judging from how humped the hood was. We get actual spy shots of a new Acura sports coupe on the Nurburgring. We get a confirmation of a V8 engine for Acura from the Honda CEO himself. So really, people have been complaining, but they were just wasting their time and emotions. The time to complain will be in 2012 if all Acura has released in the time before that is this new CUV, not now and not in the past either.
