Haven't read the article yet but I saw something about this on the G8 board. Looks like I may be switching to the Hankooks!

I'm sorry, I will never ever never ever ever buy anything from a company called Ling Long.

Judging by other products out of China, I can't say I'm surprised about their performance. Not that I would buy Ling Longs anyway, based on all the other questionable products produced there.

I do love mine. I would just check with TSXRocket. He is a wealth of tire info.

I have some older tires from Hankook on my 1g CL it's Ventus though 225/40/18 and they're pretty good in dry.

I'm not up on the new speed ratings can I assume Y is >150mph?

I use Continental Extreme Contacts and they are not expensive and certainly the best tires I've tried. Those are some interesting results tho.

Who the hell is Ling Long?

And as a PS2 owner, I can confirm their excellent rain handling. Once the two sets I own have run their course, maybe I'll consider the Hankooks or the Star Specs.

I picked up a set of the star specs for my Honda Fit about a month ago, so far so good. My first autocross on them was a bust because I wasn't use to all of the grip.

I have Eagle F-1's and spent last year Jan-June in New Jersey. I didn't have to drive very far on a daily basis, and certainly didn't during snow/ice, but i had zero problems with them. I guess they aren't classified as "affordable" but i would certainly buy them again.

Yup, those and the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's have been the benchmarks for a minute...but I'll look into the Dunlops and Hankooks now.

I put the G Force tires on the M6 and am happy with them. I don't drive the shit out of the car and I like how they look. They are a good fit

I'm not sure how much of these results are applicable to anything other than a BMW 328i. Notice how the different tires added under/oversteer; that's because the 328's suspension was tuned for the oem tire. On a different car, especially a FWD, the results may be somewhat different. For that matter, a slightly different profile (i.e. 235R45) might alter the results, again also depending on the car.

So depending on the car, I think it would be a crap shoot between the top 5. The Dunlops look strong, but they might require some suspension tweaks for best performance. Having a track and mechanics at your disposal would be nice.

very nice read.

i noticed the dunlop reviews once they were made available at tirerack. largely positive throughout.

the hankook v12 was a finalist on my short list of summer tires a few summers ago. however, i ended up with falken fk452's. perhaps i should revisit hankook again on my next replacement...

They probably are. The car is so god damn loud anyway that I don't notice it. And it isn't the daily driver so it doesn't matter as much. I basically bought them because I like the tread pattern - and they were fairly inexpensive.

They had to have a baseline shit tire.

Here's a good write-up of the General Exclaim UHP:

I just put a set of them on my 05 TL 6MT. So far I like them alot more than the Avon M550 A/S's they replaced. The Conti's are about the same dry traction, far better in the wet, and much quieter and smoother ride.
