CL: Factory NAV install

Has anyone ever installed the factory navigation system in a 01-03 CL that didnt have one originally? And if you did was it a huge pain in the ass.

Check the DIY/FAQ thread under 2nd gen TL, its very similar and will give you a good idea..

too much work involved. You're better off getting an aftermarket dbl din unit.

Agree to above post.

Get a double-din would be the best. No cutting into wires much compared on changing out the entire dash of your car. Get the metra dd kit and get a double in-dash screen. If you need measurements crutchfield has them. I think the height is 4" inch tall and width is 5-7" screens it fit. Also you might need pac-oem2 if you plan on keeping stock BOSE system.

yea I think it took me about 2-3 weeks total with the install. But I wasnt working on it every day for 8 hours a day. Just read the DIY, most of the answers are in there. Lots of splicing and stripping wires, I bought 2 different wire strippers/crimpers and probably 15 bucks of butt connecters/t-taps/snap connectors. Im pretty okay with wiring, this was my biggest project to date. But its working flawlessly, love it.

I've done this also and i think it comes down to how much you get all the parts for and if you're willing to put in hours of work for outdated technology that in my opinion looks nicer than any cheaper aftermarket NAV. The best way i can describe my own experience is since i've done it i like it in my car, but i wouldn't do it again. I got all my parts for right around $350 from a junkyard and did all the work myself. Like someone else already said, be ready for A LOT of wiring, splicing, tapping, and soldering(up to you). Good luck whichever way you decide and let me know if you have any questions i might be able to help with.

Agree with the previous post.

Rather old tech but in the end its worth more than a window gps or expensive headunit that could get stolen.

Be prepared to find shielded wires and get complete wiring diagrams for your car.

I was kinda sketchy with the shielded wires. I had all the wires from the DVD unit to the driver's fuse box, so it was kinda easy to shield those wires but it still had gaps from where I cut the wiring. From the fuse box to the navi, those are unshielded. I dont have any problems, voice and screen is clear, no fuzziness or sketchiness.

I will be returning the shielded wiring I bought from frys.

ok dudes, i did my conversion last year in december, and it was a success.. but now i've been running into a problem.. for some reason, whenever taking slightly hard turns.. or randomly hitting brake.. or just straight up just driving on a flat road no bumps, my screen decides to go black, sometimes resetting with the acura screen coming up.. sometimes it just starts spazzing out completely and keeps resetting (so it seems, keeeps going black, turning on, going blackk..) have no idea what the problem could be.. i know somethings loose or not getting contact, but what do you guys think it is? thanks!

I think you nailed it..but... as we all know intermittent problems suck. Time to get a volt meter out and start checking continuity.

That and there is a diagnostic menu built in that will run some tests. Might be able to pin it down that way too.

You hold 3 of the buttons down at the same time for 5 seconds and it will go into a diagnostic menu. Forget which 3 though off the top of my head.

anyone know the combo or how to get to the menu? I read some thread and they seem to say menu + cancel + map/guide but it doesnt work for me.

sounds like loose power or loose ground wire. one of the biggest scares for me after i completed the project.
