TL: How to: Sunroof closing with an alarm
How to: Sunroof closing with an alarm
I prefer to know that all my windows and sunroof are closed when I arm my alarm on my 02 TL. However the sunroof posed a problem to get it to work correctly. I found that when my 529T window module sent a signal to close the sunroof, it would close and then tilt upward. Or if the sunroof was already closed, it would tilt upward when I armed my alarm.
The reason the sunroof doesn't continue to tilt upward when you use the sunroof switch in the vehicle is that there are limit switches in the sunroof that tell it when it is closed. However these limit switches only work when the ignition is on. So to get the sunroof to close with the alarm, I had to figure out a way to power those limit switches while the sunroof is closing.
To do this I added a DEI 528T Pulse Timer module. You will need to trigger this module with some sort of ground when armed output. This could also be a factory armed output or even a lock output. The output of the 528T will then feed 2 relays. One relay is to power the sunroof relay (which in turn power the limit switches) and the other will trigger the sunroof close switch.
Be sure to test all wires to make sure you have the correct one's. Never connect to a wire in the vehicle you haven't tested.
Here is how you wire the 528T module:
red: fused +12v constant
black: ground
black/white: negative activation trigger from alarm
yellow: fused +12v constant
brown: + output to relays
blue loop: leave uncut
You can find the sunroof relay under the drivers dash near the fuse box closer to the firewall. You should be able to locate them by listening and then feeling the relays clicking when you open and close the sunroof. In the harness going to these relays, there is a white/yellow wire which is what needs to be powered up to get the limit switch to work. Here is how you wire up the relay:
85: + trigger from 528T module
86: ground
30: fused +12v constant
87: output to white/yellow wire at relays
You will then need to adjust the 528T's timer so it triggers long enough for the sunroof to close. It won't matter if it goes too long as the limit switches will shut down the sunroof motor.
To close the sunroof, you will send a ground signal to the green/red wire at the sunroof switch. Here is how to wire the relay:
85: + trigger from 528T module
86: ground
30: ground
87: green/red wire at sunroof switch
You can also trigger the sunroof after the sunroof relay. However this is a type A circuit (rests at ground with a 12v trigger) and will be more difficult to wire. This will also be a green/red wire but will be found at the sunroof relay. Here is how you would wire it:
85: +trigger from 528T module
86: ground
30: relay side of green/red wire
87a: motor side of green/red wire
87: fused +12v constant
This should get your sunroof to close when your alarm is armed. Good luck!
