Brian's Nightshade Build

Well I decided I was going to out do all past systems. So I anted up and went with a Sundown Custom Nightshade 18" sub with cooling and a extra spider(also more but cant remember). Powered by a New Sundown Saz2000D. In a 7.27 cubic foot box(before port and sub displacement). It's 5 cubes after all said and done. Tuned to 34 hz with a 7" port. The box is made of birch wood. I also am cutting out the back deck where the 6x9's go. And making a custom panel with a pressure fitting for the air flow to enter the cab better. I didn't want to cut into the car but my friend Justin convinced me when he said I should be able to do around a 148 or so on music. He works for a big audio store around here and is good friends with the owner of Sundown Audio(so he knows his stuff). I also am thinking of doin to cusotm made 6.5's on a Sundown 50.4. So far we have some of the box assembled and will be working on it more in the next few weeks(as he is busy with other buils some pics included). When all said and done the amps will be recessed into the spare tire well, and all covered in vynal. Should be some kinda sick. He said the goal is to make my trunk jump 2 inches and make my windows flex like crazy lol.

Here is a pic of my sundowns guts compaired to a Lanzar 3800 watt's guts lol just doesnt seem fair to the lanzar lmao

And a few of one of his other builds

Eggy, while I agree, it's what he wants. Him and I went back and forth trying to figure out what he needed, and this should work just fine.

Brian, looking good dude. I never thought I'd see a box this big in the trunk of a CL. That sucker's huge. Should be very interesting...

Lookin good dude. Can't wait to see more. As for tuning, well, I think you know my stance. <32 or fail. But the car will likely peak at 43hz, so if you're wanting numbers when/if you take it into the lanes, I'd tune up near the 35hz mark. Should do well both ways for what you need...

Well we did a bit of work on the box today. Got the port walls cut and Justin is double baffling them( he said it would work out best that way, also put bondo on the inside to make the layers smooth).

Well decided to mess around with the stock tweeter location in the dash took the 1" bose out and put in some after market ones cheap ones but man they scream.

Also just picked up these focal rims today with brand new toyo tires got em all for $100 woot. 2 are not holding air because they have dirt and stuff on the bead from the guy running off the road but hey still a steal the tires are worth way way more than i paid chrome and all should look good on the car if i dont sell em for profit

Very unique rear deck, I dig it, did you use the stock deck and just build on top of it?

Nope we took it out completely and just used the new one it's made of 1/2" mdf, the black insert is 7/8 birch with speaker grill cloth over it. We have a slight gap where it meets the seats so me may include the stock deck also not sure yet. The thing I like about the new deck is it just about looks stock

Well today we decided to trash the current port and do another. Also tonight I will be installing my Alpine deck ipod interface cable, and running 2 sets of rca's for the 50.4. Also will be taking off the door panels and getting things ready for the mids and highs

Richard yea he's pretty good on his prices just depends on what you want. Of coarse fiberglass is expensive especially if you use the good stuff. I don't even want to talk about how much I have in the build ill just say It's over 2k and leave it at that lol. His work is def extremely impressive. I can get you 2 in contact if you want. He is putting 3 18" nightshades in his silverado he previously has 12 12" sundown sa. Man that shit beat. Hes also a nc rep for sundown so can get any thing desired.

Thanks Matt yea we have a ton of hours into the box. We are done for tonight sadly as the wifes are raising hell lol. So work starts back tomorrow morning. And will be done by saturday. Pretty stoked to hear how loud it is.

Hey Brian, something just occurred to me, did you pull the support bars for the trunk lid? If so, how hard was it? I'm looking at this build, and it gave me an idea for a possible rebuild for a 4th order...

Yea i pulled those dang black bars, man it was a pita to get them off but now wish we still had them on as the trunk lid weighs a ton and i need a 2x4 to keep her open. We are playing with the idea of actuators to open her up.

Yea I might want to have him build a vented back deck like you have.
Some might say I'm going backwards with my setup but,I just ordered 4 more of the same 12's I already have.
I plan on moving the 2 inside the body to the trunk with the new 4.
So I'll have 6 in the trunk and 2 in the back seat facing in.
All 8 will see 400w rms.
Not saying today but,how much could he do my rear deck for?

The box looks good and solid.

Well another update I just picked up 6 C&D batts 2 for my car 4 to sell. I am also thinking of selling the 18 and goin back 2 2 12's or 2 10's. Im am very happy with the 18 but I want to make my trunk look show and bumpin. Time will tell though. If I did 12's or 10's. I would get another saz2000d and have one on each. Oh that should be loud.

You'll need more electrical support for 2 SAZ-2000s... 2 C&D's won't cut it... 2 D3100's would though, as long as you have the alt to charge them up...

Why are you going to kill your suspension like that? Why not run fewer batteries (at around the same cost) and save your rear suspension? Only makes sense to me...

Well just picked up a digital volt meter for the car. Blue led's gonna either fab it into the pocket under the radio, or fab up a new ash tray and put it here.
