Mattastick's 1st Gen CL Audio Build

Last comp I ran 2 True Bass Ultra 8s in a standard (boring) ported enclosure (1.4 cubed tuned at 34hz, IIRC) before trading my amp away. Now I have no amp, and can up these to 10s for pretty cheap, so I'm going to go ahead and do it. According to the manufacturer, the 10s should work better in a 6th order bandpass than the 8s, and that's the plan. Well, quasi-6th (aka series 6th order) anyway. Anyway, at this point, it's just a design an a big piece of acrylic going towards this build. I'll probably get the woofers ordered in a couple weeks when I get paid again. Until then, this is all the update I have.

Thoughts?

I could use some popcorn too, Chris. This one's probably gonna be a long build. But I've got some ideas to make it very unique and hopefully rather showy, even though it should get pretty loud and low as well. Rear chamber is roughly tuned at 30hz, by my calculations. Hoping to get the vehicle's peak frequency back down to around that 32hz mark. I loved the way the 2 10s forward firing 30hz tuned setup sounded. Hopefully this one sounds and looks better.

Headed up tomorrow to work with the Team this weekend. Gonna take the acrylic with me, and try to get some wetsanding done. Also hoping to get my busted exhaust pipe fixed tomorrow. It broke clean in half after my drive back from Pittsburgh earlier this summer. Hoping to get that done tomorrow then working with the team Sunday. We'll see I guess. I'll try to get pics of whatever we do and post them here, so you guys can at least see some progress, even if it's not on my car.

Got to looking at the exhaust today (when I thought it was going to be a simple welded fix) and somehow the mount right behind the flex pipe pulled a bit of the pipe wall out of the pipe itself. So there's not only a ruined flexpipe, but also a piece of pipe after that is ruined as well. So best bet is going to be cutting out the whole piece of flexpipe and putting a new piece of pipe in there. Unfortunately, that's going to have to wait till I get home.

Currently, just the Bravox EXS 6's powered by my RF 450.4 (channels bridged). I've got a couple of old kicker tweets (not sure the model number) with flush mount cups, but nothin to hold the cups into the doors. As soon as I can come up with something to hold those cups into my doors, they'll go in too. Then I'll have to find some form of active crossover asap. I dunno, time will tell though. Eventually I'd like to get a nice set of 3 ways. Got a plan for a bigger (well, huge) build long term, but that's going to be awhile.

No real updates, unfortunately. I'm down on money compared to where I'd like to be, which means this build is effectively getting shelved until I can get the money supply back where it needs to be, so this build can be done the right way, rather than the fast way. We have a comp on January 2nd, so I'm gonna get creative to be able to compete in bassrace at that show. The subs are here, but unfortunately no pics. Subs have been at my parents shop since they got here like last Wednesday or so. Hopefully I'll be able to grab some pics sometime early this week.

I'm really interested to see how it turns out. I hope it does well.

Like I said, first order of business is getting ready for the comp on January 2nd and being able to Bassrace the 129.9 class What I'm hoping will work (only 1 way to find out) is to take my current SA-8 box setup (.75 cubes, tuned at 39hz) and cover the port, bust out as much of the existing port as I can, then add a 3-4" aero onto the front face. The box will sit in the passenger's seat (legal for bassrace, not so much for dbdrag) and the port will basically be placed around the mic. Hopefully this will net me a burp score somewhere in the mid 30s, as that's about all I need to be able to Bassrace a 29.9.

And, keep in mind, enclosure size is all dependent on what woofers you're running...

I've got the 8 and box sitting in my garage right now. No real amp to power it, but we'll see. I've had several offers to let me borrow an amp from a teammate (hooray teammates) so we'll see. If absolutely nothing else, I've still got my 2 10s 4th order bandpass chillin in the garage that I could use. It'd probably take a day or so to get it in and playing again (huge pain in the ass) but it may be what I have to do. That box (with the AA Chaos 10s) would burp in the 142 range with 700-800w, so shouldn't be hard to find enough power to do the 29.9 I need with that box. I just don't want to mess with it, because with ~50lbs worth of subs, the thing weighs in the 150-180lb range.

Hopefully you can get it started back up. I have been purchasing parts to build my future subs. I plan on running 2 18" re mt's d1;s(possibly with a different motor i dunno yet). Gonna buy a mid sized suv in spring. I figure possibly 2 sundown saz2000's or something on those lines with a nice battery bank to back it up. Gonna go for 150+ on music. Plan to have interchangeable ports should be interesting.

Some old XXX's would be sick for that type of build, Brian. If you can find a couple old motors, you can go through Fi to get parts (yes, I know the XXX is an RE motor, but I also know for a fact you can get XBL^2 motor parts from Fi) and get a sick low end woofer (not that the XXX ain't one stock, but still). And on 4k, they'd be fine.

It's all good. Just keep reading and asking questions, and you'll learn. Then you can be involved in our conversations

On a side note, er rather the main note, I finally got the woofers to the house (they were delivered to dad's shop instead of home, which is really annoying but whatever) so I'll try to get pics up tonight. Not promising anything, but we'll see. But yeah, they have these damn spade terminals that are just going to piss me off.

Got a few pics (after some hassling by my teammates).

What's this?

How about a little size comparison (32oz Powerade, btw):

I'm not a huge fan of the dustcap myself, but it'll work. What pisses me off more is the spade terminals to hook up to. I guess I'll just have to get kinda creative with those, since I was planning on having an 8ga push terminal.

Probably not going to change the dustcap. And I'm considering pulling these spades off and running direct speaker leads with some 8ga wire. Should do plenty for what I need it to...

Nope. Had stuff for my new job today. Had to get all the paperwork and such worked out, so now I'm good. Just waiting for money at this point. Considering spending the money on the aero port I need to get this box sitting in the garage waiting on the competition on January 2nd. I'm really hoping I get one from another site's Secret Santa gift exchange, but we'll see.

CACO. It's already been done for awhile, and gifts had to go out yesterday. It was something like only supporting members and certified sellers or something. They limited it a good bit, but it's all good. I'm still waiting on what I get, so I guess we'll see. Hopefully it's the 4" aero I need for this SA-8 enclosure for the comp, then it'll get hacked up for the 6th order.

understatement lol. I never thought i would spend so much money on this stuff. Let alone the hours you spend building boxes running wires and such.
