Was surfing the Top Gear website and found this little bit rather interesting:
M3 uses a V8 engine made from the M5 V10

Looks like we'll have a low disaplcement (4L as rumored sounds good) super high revving V8. Question is, does Top Gear already have their nasty mitts on the new M3?

nope
just a guess. i would guess the same too since we only know it's gonna be a v8 w/ 400+hp and the e39 m5 engine fits that description. we might all be wrong and it's gonna be a totally new engine.

E39 M5 engine made under 400HP, and also, there's no way they'd use that in the new M3. Read the quote again -- said it's an M5 V10 derivative, so they're obviously talking about the 500HP V10 from the E60 M5. I don't put it past Top Gear to have this info before anyone, or even that someone there slipped up and put it up on their site accidentally.

C&D Mag has tested the 325i with a 6 speed manual tranny and got 6.1 secs for the 0-60 run and 14.7secs@94mph for the 1/4 mile. They did mention that the gear ratios were more aggressive than those in the 330i but the shifter was not as accurate.

I think those are amazing numbers when one considers the claimed power and torque from this new engine. They did say this 325i was quicker than last generation's 330i car!

Those numbers are amazing. It's hard to believe that they managed to pull those numbers. BMWs are usually quick in the 1/4 but not 0-60. How quick is the 2006 330i then? 5s 0-60?

They tested the 330i last month in a comparo with the IS and other sport sedans. Anyone got the mag and can share?

I remember they got 5.6 seconds when they first tested it in a very quick test in Europe a long time ago.
