Acura TSX 2009-2014: How to Install a Deck Lid Spoiler
Adding a deck lid spoiler can improve the looks of your Acura TSX. Read on to learn how to easily do it.
This article applies to the 2nd Gen Acura TSX (2009-2014).
Originally designed for race cars, rear spoilers could generate downforce at speed from the air passing over the car. This was useful for keeping the rear wheels planted through high speed corners, aiding overall stability. Granted, most TSX drivers aren't going to be hurting for downforce in their daily commutes; however, it adds a nice look to the exterior. When choosing a deck lid, you will be faced with literally hundreds of designs and as we mentioned, for our regular Acura TSX, it's all about the looks, so pick what you want. A lot of spoilers require drilling into the deck lid, but we will show how you can get the same effect without making permanent holes in your Acura. Read on to learn how to install a deck lid spoiler in your Acura TSX.
Materials Needed
- Adhesive
- Spoiler
- Isopropyl alcohol
For this particular installation, we will be doing a non-permanent install. That means no drilling and the option of removing the spoiler in the future without issue, should you choose to do so.
Step 1 – Clean deck lid
Before attempting to install the spoiler on your deck lid, you have to make sure it's as clean as it gets. Trying to use adhesive on a dirty surface can prevent it from sticking. Use isopropyl alcohol or similar to remove all traces of dirt, grease or wax from the bodywork. Ensure that your working area is clean and dry.
Step 2 – Apply adhesive to spoiler
Turn the spoiler upside down, then apply adhesive into the holes that are designed for drilling. Fill them up with adhesive, then remove the strip covering the adhesive strip that's already on the spoiler.

Step 3 – Install deck lid spoiler
Start from the edge of the trunk, and make sure it is aligned perfectly, then press onto the spoiler to allow the back part of the spoiler to sit on the deck lid. Keep some pressure on it, nothing too hard, for five minutes. The adhesive you put and the adhesive strip that came with the spoiler are more than enough to keep it there for the life of the vehicle.
