Acura TSX: How to Replace Battery
Has the battery in your TSX gone bad, leaving you stranded? Here's how to replace it, quickly and easily.
This article applies to the Acura TSX (2004-2014).
Your car's battery is designed to give you thousands of trouble-free starts, as well as provide the juice you need to power all of the car's electronics. But, as with all things in life, the battery eventually wears out and needs to be replaced. If your engine is cranking over slowly, your electrical components are operating erratically, or your battery light is on, you might have a bad battery. You can test it yourself with a multimeter at home, or take it to a parts store for a free test.
Dealerships and professional shops love to replace batteries because it's an easy job that they can make a tidy profit on. It's for that very reason that you should do it yourself, as battery replacement in virtually any car is one of the easiest jobs you'll ever do (including the TSX). Keep reading and we'll walk you through the process.
Materials Needed
- 10mm socket and ratchet (or wrench)
- Adjustable wrench
- New battery
Step 1 – Remove the battery
Pop the hood and use your 10mm socket and ratchet or wrench to loosen the terminals on the negative and positive battery posts, then pull the terminals off the battery. Loosen the nuts holding the battery bracket in place, then push down to release the bracket and remove it. Pull the battery shield out (surrounds the battery). Lift the battery up and out of the car.
Step 2 – Install new battery
Set the new battery in the battery tray, making sure the negative post is facing forward and the positive post is at the rear. Slide the battery shield over the new battery. Reinstall the battery bracket, making sure the arrow is pointing outward and that the bottom of the arms are hooked into the hooks on the battery tray. Reinstall and tighten the nuts on the bracket. Reconnect the battery terminals and tighten the nuts.
