Washing and waxing your Acura has more benefits than just good looks. Read on to learn how to wash your car and protect your paint.
This article applies all Acura models and generations.
There is more to washing your Acura than spraying some water on it. Properly washing your car allows you to remove all the little unseen debris, which can scratch your paint job. Waxing the outside of you car adds a thin protective coat over your paint, which does not only protect it, but also works as a slippery surface for dirt and debris. Although it is easy to pay some money while someone washes the car for you, it is much better for your wallet if you do it yourself, plus it's a good way to bond with your car more. Read on to learn how to wash, wax, and detail your Acura.
Materials Needed
- Towel
- Water
- Soap
- Wax
- Sponge
Step 1 – Rinse your car
Give your Acura a nice long rinse with just water. Be generous with the water so you can remove any tiny pieces of debris that could be sitting on the paint surface.
Step 2 – Soap up your car
Use soap mixed with water and spread it on the car's surface using your sponge. You don't have to rub too hard, you just need to gently rub the whole surface. Spray the wheels with wheel and tire cleaner, then allow it some time to break down the brake dust and grime.
Step 3 – Rinse the soap
Use your water hose to rinse the soap off of your car. Make sure there is no soap left on any part of the car. Spray the cleaning solution off the wheels and don't forget to get the lug nut spaces.
Step 4 – Dry the car
Use a soft clean towel to dry the car. Go through everything, starting from the roof and making your way down.
Step 5 – Clay bar the car
Take the clay bar and start to knead it together until it is malleable enough for use. With a spray bottle of clean water in hand, spritz a section of the roof and start to work the clay bar over the surface. Remember to spray the surfaces often with water to keep the clay bar from drying out. The clay bar will remove embedded surface contamination that did not come off in the regular soap wash.
Step 6 – Wax the surface
While parked in the shade, apply thin coats of wax. Start at each panel, then buff it with a buffer or a sponge in a gentle circular motion until you see a clear paint. Don't put wax all over the car, instead, wax as you go.
