This article applies to the Acura MDX.

The license plate lights in your Acura MDX are there for a reason, and that is to light up the license plate for the police officer. Even if you know you haven't done anything wrong, if your car gets stolen you will want the police to find it. That's why it's illegal to drive without your license plate having the proper illumination. Replacing the bulbs is an easy process; however, accessing them can take a bit of work. This guide will show you how to get to the license plate light bulbs, replace them with new ones, then put everything back together. Read on to learn exactly how-to.

Materials Needed

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Flat head screwdriver
  • License plate light bulb(s)

Step 1 – Remove trim piece

There is a plastic trim piece above the license plate that goes around the lights and the backup camera, if you have one. First, remove the one screw holding the camera in place. Then, remove all of the Phillips screws holding the trim piece in place. Once you remove the screws, use a flat head screwdriver and insert it between the car and the trim to push the two clips in, then remove the trim piece. You don't have to remove it all the way, you just need to lower it.

Step 2 – Replace the bulbs

To remove the light, you will need to squeeze the sides to get it out. Once it's out, gently pry the cover off of it, and swap the old bulb with a new one.

Step 3 – Re-install the lights

The light will clip back into place the same way it was removed. Install the trim piece back over it, then tighten its screws. Finally, install the camera back in place and tighten its one screw.
